Welcome to Whitewood Farm Mitigation Bank
Welcome to Whitewood Farm Mitigation Bank, in Fauquier County, Virginia. In accordance with the 2008 Federal Mitigation rule (33CFR Par 32), the Bank has approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (“USACE”) and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (“DEQ”) to provide environmentally responsible compensation for the loss of aquatic functions and services of stream resources and wetlands through authorized impacts to permittees and/or developers.
Whitewood Farm Mitigation Bank spans nearly 400 acres, and includes more than 10 miles of streams and about 40 acres of wetlands. The Bank is located along the headwaters of Little River, a tributary to Goose Creek which flows directly into the Potomac River along the Virginia – Maryland border in Loudoun County, VA.
The watershed-scale project is working to restore, enhance and preserve many miles of headwater channels and the property’s reach of Little River along with associated wetland and hundreds of acres of riparian area.
The project will improve water quality, flood storage and stream ecology across the site benefiting all properties and owners downstream. The work will result in increased native biodiversity across the site, helping to support the plant and animal species in need of habitats while transforming the bank site to a more naturalized state.
Whitewood Farm Mitigation Bank will yield more than 48,000 stream credits and 20.48 wetland credits. These much-needed environmental offsets for unavoidable impacts are immediately available in northern Virginia. Currently, Whitewood Farm Mitigation Bank has more than 9,000 stream credits and 4.6 wetland credits available in immediate inventory for project permitting needs.
